My mom will not let me keep the snake in the house!!!. I live in longmont colorado that has a similar climate to Kansas or Oklahoma Ps. i found this garter near where i live in an open field.

If your garage is cooled along with the rest of the house you are going to need to heat the enclosure. If the garage is not cooled and gets hotter than the local temps, you’ll need to cool it.
For a local snake look on line for the months average temps and keep the cage cooled or heated to those temps.
You can use heat tape, zoomed or flexwatt are two common types, to provide heat.
A computer fan can be used to help cool an overly hot cage but only works so well.
In both cases you should use a thermostat to control the temperature.
